Please welcome proprietary member Corey Lynch to Coyote Point Yacht Club. He has sailed on the Chesapeake Bay and served 3 years in the Navy–in Italy. He lives in Campbell and works at Brocade Communications.
Our annual Spring Open House and Chili Cook Off brought in several membership applications and a number of youth sailors. By all accounts everyone had a great time and enjoyed tasting the chili provided by Steve Swanson (1st place), Laurel Reid (2nd place), and Linnea Liddell and Aaron Neuhauser (tied for 3rd place). The weather cooperated and CPYC hosted around 40+ guests. Mark Ghiozzi, Mark and Linnea Liddell’s grandson oversaw the Rain Gutter Sailboat races and had his sailboats and trophies on display. Luther Izmirian provided the rain gutters for the races and the kids had a great time. Jennifer and Matt Neumann brought their boat to the guest dock for tours (and chocolate cookies).
Two of our Junior Sailing Instructors, Kellie Clark and Shannon Clark (granddaughters of Corinthian member Joan Byrne) were there to meet the junior sailors who came in to visit. They did a great job in explaining the program and their approach to teaching kids how to sail.
An event like this takes a lot of work and I would like to thank Julie Pyatt who set up for the Chili Cook Off, Jan Miller and Doris Borg who welcomed our guests as they came in, Faye Stevens who made the Chili Cook Off awards and ballots, Pauline Verducci who bought the condiments to go with the chili, Hooman Jazaie who cooked at least 32 hot dogs and Mark Green who was on the guest dock and overseeing the Optis. Lee Stevens and George Suppes were working the crowd to encourage guests to become a member of the club–I know they had one success!
One more Open House is planned in the fall–I hope you will plan to be there. It’s fun to meet potential members and catch up with members you haven’t seen for awhile.
